Neoliberalism in analysis: interview with Christian Laval

Abstract

Since 2004, when his book The School is not a Company was published in Brazil for the first time, Laval's insertion in the educational field has grown and has been a reference for research that seeks to follow the development of neoliberalism after the 1990s. In this interview, it dialogues with other theories on neoliberalism, updates some questions about education in the current context and points to possible contributions to the study of neoliberalism after the launch of the book A Choice of Civil War; of 2021. Laval analyzes the growth of the right in the world, shows how the private and state dimensions are articulated in neoliberalism and makes some reflections on possible alternatives to neoliberal rationality, always in view of educational processes.

Débora Goulart, Universidade Federal de São Paulo (UNIFESP)

Possui graduação em Ciências Sociais, mestrado em Sociologia e doutorado em Ciências Sociais (2011). É professora do departamento de Ciências Sociais da Universidade Federal de São Paulo e do Programa de Pós-Graduação em Educação - Unifesp e atua na Rede Escola Pública e Universidade (REPU). Têm se dedicado a temas como movimentos sociais, condição docente e classes sociais, ensino de Sociologia e políticas educacionais.
