School Physical Education in remote education during the Covid-19 pandemic: a scoping review

Abstract

The COVID-19 pandemic generated changes in the worldwide educational contexts, the implementation of remote teaching among them. The objective of this study was to map and analyze studies about Physical Education during this period with methodological support of a systematic review based on scoping review method. Descriptors (MeSH, DeCS, and Thesaurus) and keywords were defined for research in SciELO, Scopus, PubMed/Medline, Lilacs, Periódicos Capes, and Eric databases, focusing themes: physical education and pandemic. Initially, 162 studies were listed, and 28 were analyzed to compose this review. The research theme of 26 of these articles was the didactic-methodological organization of classes and the challenges faced by teachers during pandemic. Most of the research had a qualitative focus, and used interviews or questionnaires to physical education teachers as instruments. After analysis, we evidenced that physical education is approached under different conceptions and pedagogical trends that designate the purposes of the area. For the teachers, the period was one of anguish and discomfort, generating setbacks but also learning. Practices of exercise reproduction for fitness and health were predominant. The use of technology generated great uneasiness and highlighted the need for digital inclusion and a deeper understanding of these technologies. Among possibilities, expectations, and demands, it was concluded that it is essential to reflect on the political dimension linked to the role of Physical Education as an area of ​​knowledge that is related to the world, redefining feasible possibilities for all realities and assuming an emancipatory curriculum that raises problematizations alluding to concrete realities.
