Abstract

This article proposes a discussion about the matrices of the social and authoritarian thought and its defining characteristics in Brazilian education, identifying chronologically the beginning of the Republic, emphasizing the regime that was established in 1930. The study of social ideas and their authors, the ideological and doctrinal influences that will be the basis for the authoritarian, social and educational thought in Brazil. The political regime that started in 1930, the New State and the educational project of Getulio Vargas’s government including its principles of order, morality, politics and the desire of national unity. It also discusses the gather of a group of intellectuals who formulated a national ideal starting from the political functions of the State as a guide for the modernization of the country and the pedagogical actions of this institution; and the characterization of intellectuals who were at service for the New State and its ideology, elaborating its Project and using the education as a strategy of advertising. The social thought of Oliveira Vianna, Francisco Campos, Gustavo Capanema and the arguments for the governability and the presence of Vargas’s government in the country. The main objective of this article is to analyze the authoritarian thought.
